CAR CRASH: Wrong-way Driver Smashes into CHP Patrol Car

April 7, 2011

Berkeley – A woman was injured after the car she was driving crashed into a California Highway Patrol vehicle on Interstate Highway 80 Thursday morning, a CHP spokesman said.

Prior to the accident, at around 7 am, the CHP has already received reports of an Acura going east on the westbound of Highway 80, near University Avenue.

Later on, the car crashed into the patrol car that was stopped in the center divider, CHP Officer Sam Morgan said. The officer was there because CHP regularly conducts carpool and other traffic enforcement in that area, Morgan added.

The female driver of the Acura sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Highland Hospital. The CHP officer inside the car at the time of the accident was not hurt, although the car sustained moderate damage.

CHP is still determining why the woman was driving the wrong way.
