Woman Killed in Trolley Accident

July 13, 2009

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Police reported that yesterday afternoon, a 52-year-old woman was killed after she got hit by a trolley in Downtown San Diego.

According to Sgt. Art Doherty, the woman, who is an Escondido resident was struck by the eastbound Orange Line trolley when she got distracted by another trolley which passed her midway between fourth and fifth avenues on C Street.

The woman was reportedly staying at the Plaza Hotel on Fourth Avenue near Broadway. Residents from the Plaza Hotel remember the victim as being very friendly and peaceful and that she used to walk around downtown carrying a pink cane painted with flowers.

Although the victim has been identified, her name will not be released by the authorities until her relatives are notified of her death.

Following the accident, the trolley service was suspended for more than two hours. Metropolitan Transit System spokesman Rob Schupp warned that pedestrians should look both ways before crossing any railroad tracks.
