October 22, 2010
Willits - A male Willits Police Department (WPD) officer has been hospitalized after being involved in a hit-and-run crash.
Reports said the officer was traveling north on Highway 101 at around 9:85 am when a southbound vehicle suddenly went into the northbound lane, straight into the path of the police car. The officer then took evasive action in order to avoid a collision.
However, the patrol car was still sideswiped by the southbound vehicle. The impact caused it to run off the highway and crash into a utility pole.
Reports said the patrol car then overturned and stopped along the edge of the road.
Authorities said the other driver fled after the accident.
The officer was rushed to Howard Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. He was later released after receiving immediate medical treatment.
