Veteran San Francisco Cop Injured by a Van
October 6, 2009
San Francisco - A veteran police motorcycle officer sustained injuries when he was hit by a van last Tuesday, October 6.
The police report said the victim stopped at a green light while riding his motorcycle to allow an ambulance to pass through Howard Street. However, the van—identified from Self-Help for the Elderly organization—did not stop immediately and accidentally hit the Harley-Davidson driven by the victim. Sgt. Mike Lawson said there were 20 feet skid marks on the road.
The victim was brought to the San Francisco General Hospital after the accident. He sustained neck and back injuries. Lawson said that the victim’s injuries were “serious but does not appear to be life-threatening.”
The police planned to impound the van but have not decided if they will cite the driver who was not detained but questioned at the scene of the accident.
