Unilever Announces Product Recall of All Slim Fast Drinks in Can
December 4, 2009
Englewoods Cliffs, N.J. – Unilever has announced the recall of all canned Slim Fast canned drinks due to the possibility of bacterial contamination.
The voluntary recall affects about 10 million products that are currently on the market.
According to Unilever US arm, the contamination may have occurred during the manufacturing process.
The pathogen was discovered and reported to the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) on Wednesday.
Consumers may start experiencing symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting and nausea about 6 to15 hours after drinking a contaminated product.
The symptoms should subside in about 24 hours.
However, the possibility of the product causing serious illness is remote and the FDA says that there have been no reports of injuries or deaths related to the recall.
The product recall covers all Slim Fast products in can regardless of flavor, best-by-date, lot code or UPC number.
Unilever has stopped production until it determines the production issue that caused the contamination.
