BIG RIG ACCIDENT: Three-Big Rig Collision Kills One, Injures Another
July 7, 2010
Turlock - At least one person died while another one sustained severe injuries after three big rigs collided along Highway 99.
According to reports, the accident occurred on southbound Highway 99 along Lander Avenue.
Police said one truck was moving on the shoulder of the road and was merging onto the roadway when the two other big rigs suddenly came up from behind, causing the three to collide.
Reports said all the big rigs caught fire, which started a nearby grass fire.
Reports said the driver of the last big rig died while the driver of the middle big rig sustained major injuries.
At least one of the big rigs was loaded and another one was headed to Costo when the incident occurred. A front-end loader was used to clear truck parts, fuel, and goods that were scattered at the accident area.
Reports said Turlock fire crews were able to extinguish the fire, but they returned to the accident area later on because the debris started to flare back up.
