Teens Remain in Critical Condition after Hit by DUI driver

Loma Linda – Two Rosemead girls were seriously injured when they were hit by an intoxicated driver while they were changing their tires on the 10 Freeway, the California Highway Patrol said.

Vickie Chen had a broken left leg and sustained major head trauma while Elaine Shin Ly has multiple contusions and fractures on her right leg.

Reports indicate that the 19-year-olds Chen and Ly were on the west lane of the freeway near the overpass of Richardson Street changing a flat tire when Daniel Miersma, 23, from Redlands came traveling at about 70 mph and struck them.

Miersma was charged with felony DUI and DUI related injuries.
