VEHICLE COLLISION: Teen Driver and Police Officer Hospitalized after Head-On Vehicle Collision

June 16, 2010

Santa Clarita Valley - A 17-year-old male driver, from Garden Grove, and a 24-year-old Los Angeles Sheriff’s deputy have been hospitalized after the teen’s vehicle collided head-on with the deputy’s car in Stevenson Ranch.

According to reports, the collision happened along the intersection of Stevenson Ranch Parkway and Pico Canyon Road.

The teen who was identified as Jessie Frutos was moving eastbound in a 2005 Mercedes Benz E55 while the deputy who was identified as Blake Carpenter was moving west on Pico Canyon Road.

Initial investigations revealed that the teen directly went into the path of Carpenter, who was then responding to a non-emergency call.

Authorities said Carpenter could not stop immediately in order to avoid the accident.

Both the teen and deputy were rushed to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital to be treated for minor to moderate injuries, said reports.
