Car Accident: Suspected DUI Driver in Custody after Fatal Accident

Compton – A 22-year-old man was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and drunk driving after an accident that killed a teen and injured another near Aprilia Avenue, reports said.
Two teenage girls were reportedly walking home along 154th Street after a party at about 12:40 am when they were struck by a gray van driven by a Compton man identified as Juan Garay. The vehicle was said to be going about 60 mph in a residential area when the accident occurred.
One of the girls, 16-year-old Chanel Lenard died at the scene while the other sustained serious injuries. She was taken to St. Francis Medical Center where she is expected to recover.
Garay failed a sobriety test after being apprehended a few blocks from the accident scene. He is now detained at Los Angeles County Jail.
