Speeding Father Injures Son in a Boating Accident

September 21, 2009

San Diego, C.A. – A father caused severe injuries to his 18-year old son when he lost control of a power boat in a race and smashed into the teenager’s boat.

According to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Maurice Luque, both father and son were driving different boats and racing at high speeds when the incident happened on Mission Bay.

The teen was trapped on board when his speeding father lost control of his 25-foot power boat and smashed into his boat.

According Lifeguards Lt. Andy Lerum, the teen was pulled by medics and reps from the wreck unconscious and bleeding. He was the sole occupant of the boat when the incident happened.

Meanwhile, the father and two other occupants of his boat were unharmed.

San Diego police harbor unit officers are conducting an investigation. Boaters are required Mission Bay’s speed law to slow down when they are within 100 feet of a different vessel, said Lerum.
