VEHICLE COLLISION: San Juan Road Crash Ends in Death of Driver, Injuries to others
August 19, 2010
Aromas – One man died and two other people were hurt in a two-car collision on San Juan Road near San Miguel Canyon Road Thursday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.
According to CHP officer Robert Lehman, the collision happened at 7:45 a.m. A green Toyota Camry was driving west on San Juan Road when it crossed over into oncoming traffic. It collided with a black Silverado pickup.
A witness claimed that the sedan was weaving but the reason remains unclear. The road was covered with debris and the truck wound up in a nearby field when officers and medics arrived.
The passenger of the Camry, a 16-year-old boy, suffered serious injuries and was sent to San Jose Regional Medical Center. The 24-year-old driver of the pickup meanwhile was initially taken to Natividad Medical Center but was later transferred to the same hospital as the boy.
A dog that was in the pickup is currently in the care of Animal Control, but it did not suffer any injury. The name of the only fatality had not been released. Lehman said that all car occupants were wearing seatbelts, but the cars were both completely wrecked.
The roads were closed until about 10 a.m., the CHP reported.
