Rosemead Teen Dies; DUI Suspect Arrested

San Bernardino - One of the Rosemead teen girls hit by a suspected driver this past weekend died after succumbing to injuries from the accident, Coroner officials said.

Vickie Chen, 19, died after suffering a broken leg and a major blunt trauma to the head.

Elaine Shin Ly, also 19, is still getting treatment for contusions and a compound fracture on her right leg.

Authorities arrested 21-year-old Daniel Henry Miersma of Redlands for reckless driving resulting to injury.

The criminal complaint was filed the other day in San Bernardino Superior Court.

CHP reports said that Miersma was drunk and was running at 70 mph when he rode off the westbound lane and rear-ended the Toyota Camry stopped on the side of the freeway near Richardson Street in Loma Linda.

The two teenagers were trying to change a flat tire when the car accident happened.

CHP are asking witnesses to the crash to call (909) 383-4247 to provide more information about the accident.
