PERSONAL INJURY: Riverside Police Conducts Crosswalk Sting in Market Streets
March 3, 2010
Riverside – The Riverside Police have cracked down on motorists who ignore crosswalks and more than 20 drivers were ticketed for violations.
The Riverside police conducted the 2-hour operation in two intersections along Market Streets: the crosswalks in 6th and 11th.
As police decoys used the crosswalk to see if passing motorists would continue to drive as they were crossing, motorcycle officers then got busy stopping those who drove through the crosswalk.
The Riverside Police ticketed 22 motorists and one car was impounded after officers found out that the driver had no license.
Aside from passing motorists, the Riverside Police also monitored the street for pedestrians who might try to cross the intersection against the light, impeding the flow of traffic.
The operation was done to educate both pedestrians and motorists, and to reduce the number of pedestrian accidents.
