VEHICLE CRASH: Redondo Beach officer hurt after crashing into fountain

August 3, 2010

Torrance - A police officer from Redondo Beach suffered minor injuries after crashing into a fountain on Torrance Boulevard Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The accident occurred near Wendy Drive, east of Prospect Avenue around 8 a.m. The fountain was in front of a gated housing community, according to Sgt. Phil Keenan of Redondo Beach Police Department.

The unnamed officer tried to avoid a car making an illegal turn by swerving, but the cruiser wound up in the water of the fountain. He was taken to a nearby hospital but the injuries were not serious. He was released from the hospital later that morning and was back to work at noon.

Officials also said that the driver of the other car stopped but he has not yet been cited. Torrance Police Department is still investigating the crash.
