Carson - Authorities are looking for the motorist responsible for the death a man in Carson who was killed while crossing the intersection of Main and Jay streets at around 10:00 pm Saturday.

Reports said the man was crossing a dimly-lit, four-lane intersection when he was struck by an unidentified car, described as a 1994-1998 black Ford Mustang. A witness said the victim was thrown several feet after the impact and landed next to a parked van.

The victim, whom police later identified as Papaivia Masaga, 58- years old, died instantly at the scene.

Reports said the car was last seen driving westbound on 223rd Street with damage to the front passenger side of the vehicle.

The police are trying to review video footage of the accident taken from nearby businesses in hopes of identifying the offending driver and locate him.
