ANIMAL ATTACK: Pit Bull Owners Plead Not Guilty in San Diego Dog Attack Incident.

June 30,2011

San Diego - The dog owners, a mother and daughter, have pleaded not guilty to charges related to the attack of their pit bulls on a 75-year old neighbor in Paradise Hills on June 18, an LA Times reports said.

The two, Alba Cornelio, 39, and Carla Cornelio, 19, were charged with felony of “having an animal that caused serious bodily injury and misdemeanors of failure to protect the public, owning a dangerous animal and failure to restrain a dog”.

The victim, a 75-year old neighbor of the Cornelios, was severed bitten on her legs, arm and back and her left leg had to be amputated while her right leg needs surgery.

District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis said each defendant could face up to three years and eight months in prison if convicted on all counts.

The mother and daughter dog owners were arrested Wednesday and arraigned the following day in San Diego County Superior Court. The bail was set at $350,000 each. The pit bulls were seized and euthanized by the Department of Animal Services.
