Animal Attack: Pit Bull Owner Arrested After Fatal Animal Attack

July 22, 2010

Concord - A 52-year-old owner of five pit bulls was arrested after three of his pets have attacked and killed his 2-year-old step-grandson.

According to reports, Steven Hayashi’s pit bulls were living in their house along the 1700 block of Trail Creek Court.

The toddler, his 4-year-old brother, and two adults were inside the house when the accident happened.

Authorities said the three pit bulls attacked the boy after he walked into a garage where they were located. The two other pit bulls were in the backyard when the accident occurred.

Contra Costa County Animal Services placed the five pit bulls into custody and euthanized them later on.

Reports said Hayashi was not at home at the time of the accident. A felony child endangerment case will be filed against him.
