Pest controller killed by an 18-wheeler

November 18, 2008

Anaheim, CA - A pest-control man was killed Monday after an 18-wheeler truck pinned him against a loading dock, police said.

Authorities were called to the scene after a report of an industrial accident involving a pedestrian pinned at the parking lot of a refrigerating storage facility, said Anaheim police Sgt. Tim Schmidt.

Erik Sanchez, 30, was suffering from a massive head injury when authorities found him. The accident occurred 3:50 PM at VersaCold Logistics at 1415 N. Raymond Ave.

Sanchez, who was from Walnut, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigations indicate Sanchez was walking below a loading dock when an 18-wheeler truck was backing up. Witnesses say Sanchez was “inattentive” which may explain why he did not notice the truck.

Sanchez was not an employee of VersaCold Logistics but was there to do pest control around the exterior of the facility.

The Anaheim traffic investigators and Cal-OSHA are conducting further investigation.
