Passenger train kills 17-year-old girl

Ventura, CA – A 17-year-old girl was killed after being hit by an Amtrak passenger train near Ventura Wednesday.
The accident occurred at around 5 p.m. when Amanda Shoemaker was walking with her 17-year-old boyfriend along the tracks when the passenger train rounded a wide curve behind the couple and blew its horn, hitting Shoemaker, who died at the scene.
According to James Baroni, the chief deputy medical examiner of Ventura County, Shoemaker died of multiple blunt force injuries.
Sheriff’s Capt. Ross Bonfiglio said that Shoemaker’s boyfriend, whose identity has not been released, was approximately ten feet in front of the victim and was able to jump away from the tracks and into safety.
The accident is still under investigation.
