December 7, 2010
Simi Valley – At least one passenger died when the vehicle he was driving crashed onto a wall Tuesday morning, police said.
Kenny Perez, 33, was driving on westbound Alamo Street at about 1:15 am with his passenger, William Donald Carrott, 31. He was about to drop off his passenger back to his home when the accident happened.
As the car was going through a three-way intersection at Erringer Road, the car sheared off a fire hydrant, struck a block wall near the front gate of Canyon Club Villas townhomes, and ended up near the exit gate.
Carrott was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Simi Valley police. Ventura County Medical Examiner Senior Deputy Armando Chavez said that Carrott sustained fatal blunt force chest and abdominal injuries.
There were no skid marks found at the scene and the vehicle’s speed at the time of the crash remains unknown, Simi Valley Sgt. Ritchie Lew said. Both Simi Valley police and Ventura County Medical Examiner’s office are doing an investigation on the accident.
Perez was taken to a local hospital due to minor head injury. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and gross vehicular manslaughter.
