CAR COLLISION: Passenger dead after fleeing away from crash
September 15, 2010
Stockton – A man who fled from the scene of a car collision was killed Wednesday morning after meeting another accident while being chased down, authorities said.
The trouble began around 8:00 am when a 1997 Chevrolet Suburban collided with another vehicle near the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and B Street. However, the Suburban’s driver did not stop and instead headed north.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that the other vehicle involved followed the escaping sport utility vehicle. The SUV tried to leave Highway 99 at East Freemont Street but was going too fast. It hit a guardrail and overturned. One of the three occupants of the SUV was ejected and killed.
The 15-year-old driver of the SUV and another passenger ran away, but the passenger was later captured by the CHP. Sgt. Bill Langeumi said that alcohol may have played a role in the accident. The names of the people involved have not yet been released. The other vehicle involved also ran away.
