CAR ACCIDENT: NTSB Proposes a Nationwide Ban of Cell Phone Use for Drivers
December 14, 2011Washington DC – Happy days of texting drivers may be totally over as the National Transportation Safety Board proposed a nationwide ban of cell phone use for motorists, an online report said.
NTSB’s recommendation, if ratified by states, would prohibit motorists from using their mobile phones, except for emergency use.
The proposed ban would apply to hands-free and hand-held electronic devices but excluding devices installed by car manufacturers, reports added.
According to NTSB, the rise of car accidents caused by distracted driving is the main reason behind the suggested ban.
The Board has reported that about 3,092 fatal traffic accidents directly associated with distracted driving occurred last year.
