Metro Blue Line Train Hits and Kills Man in South LA
December 29, 2009
Los Angeles – A Latino man in his 50s died after being struck by a southbound Metro Blue Line train at a South Los Angeles crossing, authorities announced.
The accident occurred near the intersection of Vernon Avenue and Long Beach Boulevard at around 10 am Sunday. Witnesses said the man, who died at the scene, was thrown out of the tracks after being struck.
A spokesman for Metro Blue train said the crossing gate bar must have been down which made it possible for the man to cross the intersection. Both the gate bar and the light should have stopped the man from crossing.
