Marine Dies in Pendleton’s Humvee Crash

Oceanside – A marine died in an accident involving a two High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle in a dirt road on the camp while another marine sustained minor injuries, a news release said Friday.
Cpl. Gregory Dowdell Jr., of Detroit, died Tuesday after the Humvee driven by the injured marine went off road along Roblar Road. The exact time of the accident wasn’t stated but it is said to have happened in the afternoon. Cpl. Dowdell was pronounced dead on the scene.
Reports indicate that the Humvee was towing another vehicle when the accident happened near Range 409. The other marine who drove the Humvee is in stable condition.
The information released by 1st Marine Logistics Group Public Affairs indicated that the two marines were both from Landing Support Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 17 at Camp Pendleton.
