April 13, 2011
Los Angeles - The Los Angeles Police Traffic Division has launched a week-long baby seats inspection in North Hollywood on Tuesday.
According to reports, the LAPD team has asked parents to pull over for a few minutes to check whether their baby seats comply with safety standards. The police officers managed to conduct a routine assessment on the quality of the child seatbelts throughout North Hollywood on Tuesday.
The officers issued no tickets among pulled car drivers, but were given advice on proper installation of baby seats. The safety program will run through the rest of Los Angeles area this week, reports said.
LAPD officers said that the program aims to reduce the four-in-a-day child fatality rate in LA due to ineffective baby seats. They asserted that when child seatbelts are secured in place, it can reduce injuries by up to 70 percent.
Parents commented positively on the LAPD's move to ensure safety condition of children when traversing LA streets.
