February 17, 2011
Washington - Giant carmaker, Honda, has announced the voluntary recall of more than 700,000 cars in Asia and North America after it found a defective spring that could cause potential engine trouble.
The company said the affected car models include Fit, Freed and City models.
Although no accidents related to the defect have been reported yet, the company said it has received at least 72 complaints in Japan.
The defective part in question is a spring which had been allegedly placed incorrectly in a box inside the engine.
The recall involves nearly 167,000 vehicles in Japan, 156,000 in China, and more than 230,000 in the rest of Asia. In North America, approximately 122,000 cars will be recalled.
Honda had also recalled 1.35 million Fit cars over a headlight defect two months ago.
