Hit and Run in San Diego Kills One, Injures Another
August 25, 2009
San Diego – A Tijuana man died after suffering from various injuries incurred in a hit-and-run early Tuesday, the California highway patrol said.
The 65-year-old man was crushed by a Nissan Sentra when he pulled over the shoulder lane on state Route 94 to clean the windshields of his truck along with a 43-year-old Descanso passenger at around 6:45 am.
Reports indicate that the oncoming Sentra hit the left rear side of the truck before crushing the victim standing near the driver’s side. The victim’s left leg was cut-off from the hip because of the impact while his right leg was also almost severed. The passenger suffered from minor cuts on his left leg.
The medium-built Latino driver, approximately 25-35 years old, got out of his vehicle to see the damages and said something about putting up the flashers before fleeing the scene.
The unidentified victim was brought to a hospital here. He was later pronounced dead.
Police are now looking for the driver as the Sentra was impounded for evidence. He is charged with vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run.
