Health Regulators Reprimand Nestle for Mislabeling Juice Products

In a letter sent to the company officials, health regulators said the label on the boost drink that says “helps support brain development” has violated the federal provision on labeling products.
The juice drink, which comes in strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate flavors, also claims to help children with chronic illnesses, injury, or trauma to easily recover from their condition. With this claim, FDA officials believe that Nestle is misleading consumers into thinking that its juice products are medical food.
“A medical food should treat a specific medical condition which requires a distinct nutritional requirement. This means that it should be used under medical supervision”, FDA said in letter.
In response to the issue, a Nestle spokesman said the company will fully cooperate with health regulators.
