Green Onions Recalled After Testing Positive in Salmonella

September 9, 2009

Salinas, California - The US Department of Agriculture informed two California-based produce shippers that the onions they have distributed tested positive in salmonella, a food-borne bacteria that cause severe diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and vomiting.

Steinbeck Country Produce and the Ocean Mist Farms immediately recalled the green onions which were distributed in several states including California, New York, Kansas, Michigan, Arizona, Texas, and Massachusetts.

According to federal officials, the green onions came from a farm in Mexicali, Mexico.

To date, there is no reported case of salmonella ingestion.
