CHAIN ACCIDENT: Five people killed in multi-car accident at I-5

Los Angeles - At least five people were killed in a multiple vehicular accident at Interstate 5, South of Santa Clarita near Highway 14 on Sunday, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported.
Police said John Blackburn, driver of Mazda pickup truck, was killed when his truck swerved left and hit the median barrier, causing it to turn over while an incoming 1996 Nissan Altima car collided with the truck. It was succeeded by another crash when a 1994 Chevrolet Suburban hit the read end of the car.
CHP officers reported that Francisco Enciso, Nissan's driver, suffered major injuries. His passenger Yessica Milan sustained serious injuries, while the rest of the four children were killed.
The children were identified as: Xochitl Hernandez (5), Luis Villegas (12), Edgar Hernandez (8), and Cynthia Hernandez (9). Victor Jarillo, driver of Chevrolet Suburban, sustained minor injuries along with his four passengers, according to Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter.
CHP officers reported that the accident happened at 11:55 p.m. during heavy rainstorms. Highway 14's Southbound I-5 lanes were closed for eight hours, and later resumed its operations at 8:38 a.m.
CHP officers were still investigating the detailed cause of the accident.
