BICYCLE ACCIDENT: Father and Son Arrested for Hit-and-Run Charges

August 9, 2011

Los Angeles- A father and son were arrested on Tuesday morning after the Los Angeles police officers detected their involvement in a fatal hit-and-run accident in Canoga Park.

According to reports, the police officers arrested the primary suspect, Dominique Rush, in Oxnard after four months of investigation. He was detained in Van Nuys Police Station for Hit and Run and Gross Vehicular Manslaughter charges with a bail of $100,000. His 44-year-old father, Steven Rush, was also arrested in Porter Ranch for concealing the crime.

Rush was driving his 2003 Toyota Corolla on De Soto Avenue when he struck a bicyclist, German Alex Romero, in April 20, 2011. Rush failed to stop and help Romero who eventually succumbed to his injuries. Steven allegedly helped his son conceal the accident, reports said.

Reports said Romero supposed to graduate from Chatsworth High School in June 2011, which was two months before the accident. He went night cycling with his friend on northbound De Soto Avenue when an oncoming Toyota car hit him. The other bicyclist was not injured.

Witnesses from the accident scene and the Valley Traffic Detectives cooperated with Los Angeles Police Department officers to track the whereabouts of the driver.
