CAR ACCIDENT: Father and Two Sons Killed in Oroville Car Crash

June 6, 2011

Oroville-- A father and his two sons died after their car over careered on rain-slicked Highway 70 and plummeted into the cold Feather River on Saturday.

According to reports, Cody Allen Olson,16, was driving a Pontiac Firebird car along Highway 70 when it passed a motor home. The teen driver tried to return to his lane, but the car began to swerve and fall into the Feather River.

His father identified as Jameson Olson, 35, and younger brother Jameson Olson III,9, were also inside the vehicle when the accident occurred.

The three were able to swim out of the vehicle and they struggled to reach shore. Cody Allen helped his younger brother hold onto a rock and then tried to save his father.

The boy stayed on the rock for 20 minutes, but was eventually swept downstream.

Reports said rescuers were able to retrieve both the boy and his father, but they were pronounced dead at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the driver’s body was found Sunday afternoon.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers are investigating whether worn out tires is a factor in the accident.
