MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT: Fatal Motorcycle Collision on 405 may be Alcohol-related
April 11, 2011
Los Angeles – A collision between two motorcycles Sunday afternoon left one of the motorcyclists dead, and the other one arrested for allegedly driving under the influence, the California Highway Patrol said.
The two unnamed motorcyclists were traveling in between the number three and four lanes of the eastbound 405 Freeway near the 10 Freeway, according to CHP Officer Monica Posada.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the 23-year-old motorcyclist riding a Ducati struck the 29-year-old’s 2004 Honda from the back. Both were ejected off of their bikes, and the Honda motorcycle then slid underneath a sedan.
The LA Fire Department took the younger rider, a Burbank resident, to UCLA Medical Center but was pronounced dead at 4:52 pm. The older, North Hollywood resident was also hospitalized after suffering major injuries. He was released into custody and later arrested for DUI, Posada said.
Sig Alert was issued at about 4:40 pm and the lanes were closed, causing traffic to back up for several miles. The lanes were reopened at around 8 pm. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
