VEHICLE CRASH: Fall River Mills Man Killed in Highway 299 Crash

Bella Vista - An 85-year-old man died Monday afternoon in a vehicle accident on the eastbound lanes of Highway 299, near Bella Vista, the California Highway Patrol said.

According to authorities, the man, who was from Fall River Mills, was driving his 2002 Subaru Outback at about 4:00 pm when he lost control of it, drove into an embankment and struck several trees near North Cow Creek.

Reports say the fall was about 250 feet from the roadway. The driver was declared dead at the scene.

Only one lane was passable for a few hours as rescuers clear the accident scene.

Officials say alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
