Los Angeles - A 79-year old woman, identified as Ozenia Brown, died instantly at the scene when she was struck by a van while in the crosswalk late afternoon Thursday in South Los Angeles, reports said.

Investigators said the accident occurred near 110th Street and Western Avenue. The driver of the Chevrolet van was later identified by the police as James Willie Douglas, 70 years old.

Witnesses said Douglas failed to yield to Brown who was in the crosswalk and thus struck the victim.

Authorities ruled out drug or alcohol as the cause of accident. Investigations into the accident is on-going.
