Drunk Driver Hits Police Car, Injures 2 Officers

June 26, 2009

Studio City – Five cars that include three police cars were damaged while two of the police officers sustained harm after a suspected drunk-driver rammed one of the police cars.

According to Sgt. Henkle of the Los Angeles Police Department, the accident occurred on Ventura Boulevard between Carpenter and Radford Avenues in front of the CBS Studio Center at around 2:15 a.m.

Sgt. Henkle said that he made a traffic stop because of suspicion of littering. He called another police car to conduct a fingerprint check on the suspect. Since the fingerprint device did not work, another car equipped with the same device was called on the scene.

The last car that arrived at the scene was hit from behind by another car that caused the chain reaction- crash.

The car that caused the accident was seriously damaged while the car it hit suffered only moderate damage.

The other three cars only sustained fender and bumper damage, according to Sgt. Henkle.

Two police officers were treated on the scene and were transported to Saint Joseph Hospital in Burbank after complaining of back aches.

The driver who caused the accident was arrested for driving under the influence while the other driver who was stopped for suspicion of littering was ticketed, said Henkle.
