Driver Indicted on Manslaughter after Fatal Crash

Santa Ana - Prosecutors have indicted a woman driver on vehicular manslaughter charges for killing a man and injuring another in a crash, after racing through a red light and driving under influence.
According to report, Amika, Sergejev, 31, was charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under influence while intoxicated, and a sentencing enhancement allegation for causing great bodily injury.
Sergejev is facing a maximum sentence of 14 years and eight months in prison if she will be convicted on all counts.
In a statement from the Orange County Police District Attorney’s office, the driver, after ingesting methamphetamine, drove a rented GMC pickup at speeds over 93 mph in a 40 mph zone on Lincoln Avenue in Cypress, about 10:30 p.m., on October 3, 2008.
Prosecutors stated that Sergejev ran a red light at Walker Street and Lincoln Avenue and crashed into two cars that were passing through the intersection.
Lea Neang, 69, who was in the Nissan sedan was killed, while the driver of Ford SUV, Peter Van Dyk, 20, was treated for glass-fragment injuries at a hospital.
The driver is being held in lieu of $100, 000 bail pending her arraignment in the Central Justice on January 15.
