Driver Error Led to Fatal Bus Crash

Los Angeles - Authorities said the driver committed a fatal error in the recent bus accident along a rural highway near Soledad which killed five foreign tourists and injured 30 others on April 28.
John Egnew, 69, who also died in the accident, failed to turn the wheel as the bus approached a curve, hitting the highway barrier before flipping over, according to an investigation conducted by the California National Highway Patrol (CNHP).
The CNHP preliminary report also revealed that Egnew, who was not wearing his seatbelt during the time of the accident, smashed through the windshield and landed on the road.
Egnew’s blood was also tested for any presence of toxins or chemicals and the result turned negative.
With these findings, authorities ruled out mechanical error, weather condition, and road design as the causes of the accident.
Earlier report said the bus was traveling with 34 French and Canadian tourists during the time of the accident.
Because of the impact, bags, luggage, and even some passengers were thrown out of the bus.
