CHAIN ACCIDENT: Dispatched CHP Officer Hospitalized after Chain Accident in Orange County

October 20, 2010

Orange County - A dispatched California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer has been hospitalized after being involved in a chain accident on the northbound 241 toll road, said reports.

The unnamed officer was at the Santiago Canyon Road to help a driver with a disabled Mercedes.

He was inside his patrol car when the driver of a 2009 Nissan suddenly swerved out of control, said reports.

Authorities are looking at two likely scenarios. They said the patrol car may have crashed into the Mercedes after it was hit by the Nissan or the Mercedes may have crashed into the patrol car after it was hit by the Nissan.

According to reports, the officer sustained moderate injuries and was brought to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. The Nissan driver was also taken to the same hospital to receive immediate medical treatment for major injuries.
