Deputy Sustains Injuries in a Head-on Crash

May 10, 2009

Valley Center, CA – A sheriff’s deputy was injured after being involved in a head-on collision on Valley Center Road just south of state Route 76 on the Rincon Indian Reservation Saturday.

Sheriff’s Deputy Anthony Radicia was driving north near Gulch Road in a marked sheriff’s Ford Expedition at around 8:50 a.m. when a vehicle trying to veer into a driveway crossed over the double yellow lines and crashed head-on with the SUV, sheriff’s Lt. Julie Sutton said.

According to Sutton, Radicia was able to get out of his badly damaged SUV and help the other driver, whose vehicle also sustained major damages.

Radicia and the other driver, a Los Angeles woman who is unfamiliar with the area, were taken to a hospital due to minor injuries.

The California Highway Patrol closed both directions of the road until around 1:30 p.m. while investigation was being conducted.
