DUI Motorist in Truck Crash Identified as a Deputy

Costa Mesa – The Orange County Sheriff’s department has confirmed that the accident involving a truck and a light pole early Friday morning was caused by a drunken deputy.
Reports indicate that 31-year-old Matthew Cheeks, a deputy of the Orange County Sheriff’s department, crashed his truck at around 2:15 a.m. onto a light pole on Victoria Street.
Cheeks suffered minor facial wounds and had to be extricated from his 2005 Toyota Tundra and taken to Western Medical Center.
The department’s spokesperson assured the public that they will take necessary actions if charges against Cheeks are proven.
