DUI Driver Killed Woman in a Parking Mishap

San Marcos - An unidentified woman sustained injuries because of a drunken driver last Monday. She and her husband were on their way from the grocery to their car when the suspect’s car accidentally backed up on her.
The suspect, Leopoldo Morales, 27, was driving his Saturn SL. The victim was dragged underneath for about 40 feet, according to the police report. He immediately fled the crime scene.
The victim sustained internal injuries on her right arm, back and ribs.
The Palomar College police officer caught Morales on Linda Vista Drive. The suspect had a head-on collision with a parked car on Descanso Avenue prior to being caught.
Morales is facing “felony charges including suspicion of driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury, hit-and-run and evading arrest.” Currently, he is in Vista Jail and held on an immigration hold.
