March 22, 2010
Santa Rosa — A police car responding to an emergency call was hit by a 37-year-old driver who was found be drunk on Sunday evening, according to the police department.
Police said that Angelica Marie Portillo was found to have a blood alcohol limit which exceeded twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
According to an investigation, Portillo hit the police car as it was traveling north in the southbound lane of Mendocino Avenue to avoid the traffic congestion in the northbound lane.
While it was the police car which has counter-flowed the traffic, officials said that Portillo should have avoided the collision since the patrol car had its siren blaring and lights flashing.
Meanwhile, no one was injured in the accident.
Portillo was booked in the Sonoma County jail for drunk-driving charges.
