PERSONAL INJURY LAW: DUI Driver Evades Arrests, Crashes into Police Car

February 23, 2010

Petaluma - A drunk driver hit a police patrol car early Monday morning while trying to evade arrest, according to a police record.

Keith Obryan Johnson, 26, was arrested under DUI charges after alcohol test showed that he was driving with a blood level of 0.12 percent, far exceeding the 0.08 percent legal limit in California.

Johnson, who was also arrested twice for DUI driving since 2008, was booked in Sonoma County Jail and is under a $75,000 bail.

In an interview, Sgt. Andrew Urton said police officer McCarthy pulled up behind Johnson on the west side of East Washington Street.

Urton said the suspect did not stop despite the patrol car’s blaring siren and flashing lights.

McCarthy followed Johnson near Wilson Street when the suspect hit the patrol car’s rear panel, Urton said.
