Crash in Merced Kills Passenger

Merced, CA- A woman was fatally injured after she flew out of a van Monday morning along Highway 99, the California Highway Patrol said.

Doris Wilson-Thomas, 53, was identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office moments later.

Reports indicate that around 5:30 a.m., the van skidded to the shoulder of the highway near South Avenue. It then hit a guardrail and was overturned. The victim was not wearing a seatbelt as she died at the Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock.

The Oakland driver of the van, Sharolette Simpson, 45, and Anchilitia Thomas of Tracy, 29, both incurred minor injuries.
