Consumer Agency Warns Parents on Recalled Bassinets
August 20, 2009
Bethesda, Maryland - Following the death of two infants a few weeks ago, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has reiterated its warning to parents to stop using the recalled bassinets manufactured by Simplicity Inc. Last year, the consumer agency announced a recall on these convertible cribs after two babies also died due to suffocation when their heads were trapped between bars.
In September 2008, a 2-month-old girl in Georgia suffocated and died when she rolled into the fabric sliding of the crib and the bars caught her neck. After few months, another 6-month-old girl in Texas also died in the same manner.
The consumer agency also received two reported incidents involving 3-month-old and 10-week-old babies who were trapped between the mattress support and the lower bar. The infants did not sustain injury after their caregivers freed them.
CPSC officials urged parents to return the recalled bassinets to the retail stores where they have purchased these.
