Chrysler Plans to Accept Product Liability Claims
August 27, 2009
Carmaker giant Chrysler Group LLC announced its plan to accept product liability claims after emerging from bankruptcy protection which shielded the company from lawsuits and claims.
In June, the company emerged from bankruptcy protection after it completed its alliance with another auto giant Fiat.
In an interview, Chrysler spokeswoman said the company is considering to accept some product-related claims from consumers who were involved in accidents after the carmaker giant has been released from the bankruptcy protection.
The company will not include product liability lawsuits filed before April 30.
Chrysler Senior Vice President for External Affairs John Bozzella said that accepting claims and lawsuits from consumers will not threaten the “future viability of the company.”
Bozzella added that the company’s new approach is consistent with the bankruptcy process which is also adopted by General Motors, another US auto giant which also filed bankruptcy protection.
Meanwhile, hundreds of consumers will not receive claims from Chrysler since the company will not take responsibility for the deaths and injuries which occurred before the bankruptcy.
