Bus Crashes on I-215, injures 25

May 3, 2009

Colton City – A Colton City-sponsored bus trip ended in a tragedy Saturday as the bus coming from Cinco de Mayo festival in San Diego crashed along Interstate 215 injuring all reported passengers with 8 in critical condition.

Occurring a few days after the tour bus accident in Soledad, the 2003 MCI E-Series Renaissance Coach operated by Inland Empire Stages veered across the northbound lanes of I-215 and then struck a sound wall.

A fire official who was first on the scene said that the door was inaccessible with the bus pinning it down to the road. Rescue volunteers had to use a ladder and access the vehicle through a side window.

Authorities said that although almost all of the passengers were bloody, especially those in the front passenger side, no one was screaming and everyone seemed to be calm and quiet.

Ladders were used to move most of the passengers out of the vehicle while firefighters had to cut through the sandwiched front end of the bus to get the severely injured people out.

Several ambulance services and helicopters were needed to bring the injured to different hospitals located in Riverside, Menifee, Wildomar, Moreno Valley and Murrieta.

It took more than an hour to get everybody out of the overturned bus.
