TRUCK ACCIDENT: Big Rig Leaves Crash Scene, Abandons Backhoe

March 15, 2010

El Monte – The police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that involved a fleeing big rig and a backhoe left at the crash scene yesterday.

According to El Monte Police, the truck accident occurred at about 4:15 pm when a big rig crashed into a railway overpass on Santa Anita Avenue and Valley Boulevard.

The backhoe that was being carried by the truck was thrown into the ground.

The big rig left the backhoe lying on the ground as it drove away from the scene.

Police had to close Santa Anita Avenue on both directions between Valley Boulevard and Bryant Road.

The tracks that are used by the Union Pacific trains were also shut down as it was deemed dangerous by the police because of materials hanging from the overpass.

The driver of the big rig has not been found by the police.
