Authorities Investigate Police Chase Involved in Fatal Accident
August 10, 2009
Central Valley, California - Local authorities have conducted a preliminary investigation on last weekend’s police chase that killed eight people including three occupants of the stolen car.
According to investigators, Police Officer Marcos Nunes followed the proper procedure when he chased the suspects.
Nunes, unaware that the minors had carnapped the vehicle, tried to pull them out of the road for traffic violations. However, the suspects immediately flee after seeing the police officer.
Some witnesses told investigators they saw the stolen car ran a red light before hitting a pickup truck, killing five children inside and injuring their parents.
The three occupants of the stolen car were also killed in the accident.
Police identified the driver of the carnapped vehicle as Oscar Esparza, 17, from San Diego. The other two occupants were Arthur Divas, 19, and Richard Carrasco, 16, both residents of Dinuba.
